Abstract

With the pandemic, many children changed their lifestyle and diet, staying more at home, increasing their sedentary lifestyle. The objective of this work is to relate these changes with the factors that may contribute to the emergence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in children. As a method for the elaboration of this analysis, a systematic review of scientific articles was used, consulting the databases PubMed, MedLine and Scientific Electronic Library Online, in Spanish, Portuguese and English. There were restrictions regarding the time of study, being the last 5 years. The abstracts and, when necessary, the complete articles were reviewed, finally taking into account all

the articles that included recommendations on type 2 diabetes mellitus in children and the impacts of the pandemic. The changes in the diet, being richer in carbohydrates and fats, the isolation contributing to sedentary lifestyle, make these two associations generate consequences such as overweight, obesity, hypertension and can also influence sleep and stress. Thus being, all these mentioned explosions are risk factors for the emergence of diabetes mellitus type 2. Therefore, greater attention should be given to pediatric patients in order to prevent this disease, since the consequences can last a lifetime and can worsen with time.
